New Slate Roof - Oldham, Manchester
Reclaimed slates have the advantage of matching the look and feel of existing properties in the area. On existing properties reclaimed slate coverings will help new developments such as home extensions, dormers and porches to blend in and appear the same age as the remainder of the roof Slate matching requires a sample of slate and matching to find an appropriate source at various slate yards or slate merchants Once the best match is found the slates are added to the roof so they blend either side of the new covering. This diffuses any marginal variations in colour or shade. Reclaimed slate is matched according to colour, thickness, dimensions, flatness, and grade and edge characteristics - roughness. Alignment of SlatesOur professional slate roofers ensure that slates are kept in alignment by fixing battons at regular intervals and ensuring that slates are 'half lapped' (sit halfway across each other). Slates are graded before installation with thicker slates laid at the eve-line (bottom of the roof) and thinner slates at the top of the elevation (ridgeline). This reduces loading on the roof structure Blue Collared Slate RidgeThe roof ridge pictures show the fully bedded and skimmed, blue collared slate ridge. The interlocking collars are designed to prevent water ingress into the roof. The ridge slates are bedded into cement along the apex / roofline. This ensures long lifespan and secure fixture Lead ValleysThe picture shows a dual pitch running into lead valley where run-off is channelled into the gutters. When lead valleys are installed, each lead section is no longer than 1.5 metres. The length restriction allows for thermal movement of the metal as it expands and contracts from solar heating over the course of a day heating. Without the lenght limits the lead would either become lose or split. The lead sections are fixed with copper nails to avoid corrosion and chemical reaction. The first and bottom section is nailed at the top and each subsequent section overlaps the underlying section by 150mm to prevent water ingress. Health and SafetyFor the wellbeing of our clients, employees and subcontractors K-Roofing adhere to Health and Safety rules and Best Practice Guidance. The site property is fully scaffolded at all times, proper ladder access is provided and ladders are tied onto the scaffolding at all times. Scaffolding levels have a double hand rail and a wooden kick board is installed to prevent slips and falling materials or tools. Lead workers wear protective clothing and adher to LDA installation guidelines KK-Roofing Install New and Reclaimed Slate Roofs in the Following AreasGreater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, North Wales and Merseyside Accrington | Alderley Edge | Birkenhead | Blackburn | Blackpool | Bolton | Burnley | Bury | Buxton | Chadderton | Cheadle | Chester | Chorley | Chorlton | Colne and Nelson | Colwyn Bay | Derby | Glossop | Harrogate | Hebden Bridge | Heywood | Huddersfield | Keighley | Knutsford | Lancaster | Liverpool | Macclesfield | Mossley | Oldham | Preston | Ramsbottom | Rhyl | Rochdale | Rossendale | Sale | Salford | Sheffield | Southport | Stockport | Stoke on Trent | Swinton | Timperley | Wakefield | Warrington | Wilmslow | Wigan | Worsley Call our experts on: 0800 1950 350 and discuss your slate roof problems and requirements.
