Retiled Roofs on Public Housing

K-Roofing are specialist roofing contractors approved for work on many public sector projects.

We have the roofing skills and experience required to undertake large scale tile roofing projects such as the reroofing of council estates and hospital properties and the refurbishment of historic buildings such as town halls.

Our tiling services include the tiling of new roof structures and the retiling, repair and refurbishemnt of existing tile roofs.

Tiling Skills and Experience

K-Roofing has industry certified installers who have the extensive experience required to correctly and efficiently install both modern and traditional roof tiles, systems and materials.

We use tiles manufactured by leading roofing material producers such as Marley Eternit, Sandtoft and Lafarge Redland and can source reclaimed tiles for tile matching on refurbished roofs.

Our expertise ensures that our roofing projects within the public sector: hospitals, public buildings, schools, colleges, sports centres, museums and libraries are completed to the highest standard using the best materials.

Tile Selection Factors

By selecting appropriate tiles based on building plans or with consultation between clients and the tile manufacturers we ensure safe and appropriate solutions are applied with regard to:

  • existing roof covering
  • site location
  • roof pitch
  • roof loading
  • roof size
  • appearance, period and style of building
  • durability and lifespan required
  • cost and budget
  • airtightness and vapour permeability

Correct tile selection ensure roofs retain their seal, the life of the roof is maximised, and the retains has enhanced aesthetic or 'kerb' appeal.

Within out examples section we show installations using plain, profiled and interlocking tiles, formed from either clay, cement, and fibre cement (slates).

Roof Re-Tiling

Roof leaks, wet exterior walls, cracked, damaged and missing tiles are some of the symptoms of a tile roof that requires repair maintenance, retiling or reroofing.

Retiling a roof is necesssary once the existing tiles are at the end of their useful life.

Evidence of degraded tiles include:

  • shaling (crumbling and disintegration) of clay tiles
  • cracking cement tiles
  • missing tiles
  • evidence of multiple minor repairs
  • mismatched replacement tiles
  • misshapen lead flashings and chimney aprons, eaves and gutters

A damaged tile roof covering can lead to leaks and wind blown spray which can cause associated problems such as damage to property and rotting to structural timbers.

To accurately assess the damage or problems within a roof, a roof survey may be required to identify the underlying condition of the structure and any remedy required.

Retiling a roof will require:

  • scaffolding for access and safety
  • identification and isolation of any defective areas
  • stripping out these damaged or decayed areas
  • reinstatement with new or reclaimed materials to match existing slates

Tile Roof Refurbishment

Where the roof structure and tiles are generally sound, the existing roof covering may be refurbished.

Refurbising a tile roof requires a partial overhaul of the existing tiles, identification and isolation of the defective areas that are evident, the stripping back of these areas and reinstatement of the tile covering with a patchwork of existing and new or reclaimed materials that match the existing tiles.
